Join guest host Patricia Diaz-Kismarton for our next parenting roundtable session. Details below:
The present-moment triggers, feelings and patterns give us an insight into the unconscious agreements we have been operating and parenting under. We all get triggered when something is happening in our external world and we don’t have full control over (e.g. our kids are not listening or being obedient, or they're moody, or failing in class, etc..). These triggers make us feel a loss of control, which increases our sense of helplessness as a parent and raises our sense of anxiety. We then try to deal with this stress the way we’re used to, based on our biological survival mechanisms (we fight, flee, fix, please, freeze), so we end up reacting and parenting in disconnect or dissonance with our kid's real needs in the present moment.
At this round table discussion, we'll look introspectively to uncover, process and become more aware of our own triggers, beliefs, and feelings underneath. This level of self-awareness is a very important step to begin to self-regulate and operate in a healthier emotional environment for both parents and children. Afterall, our biggest hurdles and frustrations in parenting have little to do with our kids, and it has a lot to do with us!
