The shoebox appeal is an international initiative which helps millions of children in need to receive at least one present at Christmas, full of essential items. We work with Casa Seis and Associação Juvenil Ponte, two locally based charities that focus on helping children and their families in the Sintra region.
This year, we want to continue to support this amazing initiative and help spread some joy during the festive season.
Our local charities support children from the age of 5 to 17 years. With your help, we can ensure every child will receive a Shoebox this Christmas.
Every shoebox needs to include all the 4W items. They need to be new or in excellent condition:
1. WRITE – something kids can use for writing and is helpful for school (e.g. coloring pencils; pens; notebooks)
2. WASH - a new toiletry/ies (shampoos, toothpaste, shower gel, toothbrush)
3. WEAR – new or excellent condition clothing (e.g. raincoat, t-shirt, jumper)
4. WOW – something special for the child / teenager (toys, reading books, board games, accessories)
If you need some inspiration or guidance please read our FAQs which provide a longer list of items that you can use to make a shoebox.
THE DO’s and DON’T’s
Please read our guidelines to ensure your shoeboxes have been put together correctly. They include all 4W items and are labelled and wrapped correctly (boxes can’t be sealed) as we have to open them. This is a safety protocol required by the charities. And no items are included that we are not allowed to have.
Read the guidelines on how to make a shoebox.
If you don’t have time to make a shoebox, another way to support the appeal is by donating bulk items and we can make the shoeboxes for you.
