Join us to learn the ancient art of building with cob on a productive local farm. You will get practice mixing the right blend of clay, sand, straw, and water to create sustainable eco-friendly structures. Cob can be used to build structures like a pizza oven, a shower, a play structure, a decorative garden bench, and even a house! Humans have been building with cob for centuries, and cob structures last a very long time if they are cared for.
On Thursday, we'll be working on a cob bench and pizza oven, a project that we started a year ago at our first TASIS Parents Explore workshop. We'll be taught by Cascais-based natural-builder Tom van Well. Working with cob is a hands-on and feet-on experience; many people enjoy working the cob mixture with their feet. We're pondering a "natural building guild" for TASIS high schoolers in fall 2024.
Compared to last year's family workshop with the slideshow, this year we'll be spending more time making and building with cob. Because of that, the suggested donation is €8-10/person. Super fresh farm-to-fork lunch will be provided.

P.S. Horta da Albarraque composts the organic waste from the TASIS kitchen and refectory, so you can also learn about how we do that and what we do with the finished product!
