THE MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION:
What is going on in the adolescent brain?
...and how do all those internal changes affect our children's physical, mental, and social health?
And how can we as parents develop greater empathy, and “skill up” to talk with our kids and to support their development and their choices?
Developmental scientist and global expert Dr. Ahna Suleiman will address these questions and more in her virtual workshop intended for parents of 10-16 year olds.
About the Speaker:
Dr. Ahna Suleiman is an educator, youth advocate, and transdisciplinary developmental scientist. Her
work integrates best practices from public health, effective youth engagement, and developmental
science to inform policies and practices that support positive health trajectories for young people. Ahna
currently coordinates the UCLA Center for the Developing Adolescent’s Youth National Scientific Council
on Adolescence and chairs the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine’s Youth Engagement
Committee. She has taught courses in public health and youth development at UC Berkeley, UC Davis,
and recently left a tenure track position in the Department of Public Health at Sacramento State
University. Ahna is currently prototyping new employment models that allow her to maximally support
adolescent health and wellbeing. She holds a Doctor of Public Health from the University of California
Berkeley, a Master of Public Health from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, and a B.A. in
